Doreen In Cabrini Green

Hey, everybody my name is Doreen

And I was born and raised in Cabrini Green.

I remember on Friday's after school coming

Home and seeing brand new albums

Atop the component set with music that wenton for days!

Purchased From Frank's Barbershop on the corner 

of Oak Street,

Then on Saturday's on Soul Train we'd see 

Don Cornelius greet

Our favorites like Atlantic Starr and Frankie Beverly & Maze

Later on Mama and Daddy would go down to the 

Matador, The 1208 or the Get Down Lounge,

As kids we used to try and unscramble and scrounge

ln between the after hours movies on 

On TV and Spectrum

My older sister Karen and I would sooner 

Than later watch the HoneyMooners...

Or the Benny Hill Show or Cell Block H on the tv screen.

Because two of the characters bore our

Names...Karen and Doreen.

Each time our namesakes would do something

stupid which was inevitable we'd tease each other!

On the other hand my two older brothers

Marsay and Butch would play Richard Pryor

and Millie Jackson records and 8 track cassettes

Yep, the same ones that we were not allowed

to listen to yet.
